Our lakefront cabin is located on Lake Hiwassee which is the deepest TVA lake that sports over 160 miles of shoreline bordered by the Nantahala Forest and so over 90% of the shoreline is undeveloped. The result is that there are not many homes on the lake, and little boat traffic as it is off of the beaten path and mostly located inside of a State Park. This is a huge lake located in the Smoky Mountains, and you can have the best of both worlds in enjoying a pristine lake and magnificent mountains. This SMOKE-FREE AND PET FREE cabin has four bedrooms, three tiled bathrooms and a loft. "Cabin" doesn't do it justice as guests are surprised by the comfortable furnishings. There is over 2400 square feet of living space and another 800 square feet ocomprised of screened porches and decks. Two of the bedrooms are located on the main level. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and the private bathroom has a jet tub as well as a shower. The second bedroom on the main level has a queen-size bed, and the second bathroom is located next to it. Both of these bedrooms have a private deck. There is a fully equipped kitchen with stainless appliances, custom cabinetry and Silestone countertops. There is a bar area off of the kitchen with bar chairs, and the main dining area is located on the screened porch off of the living room on the main level. We have bamboo trays (sitting on top of of chair on the landing leading to the loft) for when it is cold outside, or if you and your guests want to eat on trays and watch tv. There are hardwood floors throughout the main level with a bar area and stools located off of the entrance area. The entrance hall has stairs leading to the loft which has a sleeper sofa and is a perfect nook for children who want to slip away. Also located on the main level is the great room with a vaulted ceiling, a wood burning fireplace, plenty of comfortable furniture and large French sliding doors that lead to the screened porch which is the perfect place to enjoy your first cup of coffee. In addition to the seating area, there is a long wooden table with benches to provide plenty of room for your family and friends. The downstairs is carpeted and has a large den, two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry room. One of the bedrooms has a queen-size bed, and the other has two sturdy wooden oversized bunk beds. The bottom of each bunk has a full-sized mattress and the top is a twin. Off of the downstairs is another huge screened porch that has a hammock and a ping pong table. We like to sit upstairs on the screened porch off of the main floor and listen to the teenagers as they are playing ping pong or talking on the dock. It is amazing what you can learn! Just off of the downstairs screened porch is the fire pit and grilling area that has a gas and charcoal grill complete with four Adirondack rocking chairs for your comfort. It's just a short walk down the steps to the dock which has an amazing view of the lake and mountains. The dock is the perfect spot to rest, read or just relax and enjoy the view. Our lake house is located in Bear Paw which is a private gated community which offers many amenities including a large swimming pool, tennis court, volleyball court, a covered pavilion, fishing pond and a children's playground. Mountain View Marina is located inside of Bear Paw and has a boat ramp if you want to bring your own boat. The marina will rent boats, kayaks or paddle boards by the hour or day and is a short drive from the cabin and even a shorter ride by boat. They are extremely friendly and have pontoons for rent which are simple to operate for the boating novice. Since this is a TVA lake, during the winter months, the lake level is usually dropped by about 40 feet. Lake Hiawasee is the deepest lake in the TVA system and is 300 feet deep at the dam and navigable year round. The cove behind our cabin is about 25 feet deep at full pool, and there is a dock behind the cabin where you can park your boat. Since the TVA lowers the water level during the winter months, you will not be able to dock a boat behind our cabin from about November thrul March. However, the marina has short term slip rentals available so you would be able to rent a slip for your boat and enjoy the lake during the winter season as the marina is located on a deeper part of the lake and has water year round.. This is the perfect vacation as it offers something for everyone whether you like the mountains or the water.

For your convenience, this home has a Rinnai tankless hot water heater and, if you need to keep in touch, it offers the fastest internet available in the area (probably not as fast as you are used to) and a Verizon cell booster plus a landline for outgoing calls. Remember that part of what makes Sweetwater Lodge special is that it is a place to relax and unwind and get “away from it all.” So, internet may be slow, cell service may be spotty and a trip to the grocery store can take 30-40 minutes one way but we don’t think that will matter once you get here and slow down and breath our mountain air. Morning coffee, watching the fog come up off of the lake, nap on the daybed, dinner outside, views, sunsets... rockers. We also share a firepit with the neighboring cottage, so bring your s’more stuff (6 Adirondacks)! Two queen bedrooms + a (bunk room (w/ TV/DVD/VCR)), cozy stone fireplace, WIFI, Green Egg, paddle boards, multiple recliners, daybed on porch. Our lake house has 3 floors with 5 bedrooms. The main floor has 2 bedrooms which sleep 4 with a full bath, as well as the living room, dining area, kitchen and access to the wrap-around deck overlooking the lake and mountains. Upstairs has 2 bedrooms which sleep 4 and a full bath with bathtub. The bottom floor has a bedroom which sleeps 2 with a private bath and a large carpeted seating area which leads to the lower deck with steps that go down to the floating dock. Amenities include central AC and heat, microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer, wi-fi and a landline phone for your use (cell service is not reliable). The television is available for playing DVDs, though Dish service is not available in this area. Access to the house is from the parking area on the road, down sturdy wooden steps with railing provided (NOT handicapped-accessible). Access to the dock is down about 120 steps, as our home, like many in Bear Paw, sits well above the lake. If you're willing and able to make the short hike, you'll find the water is perfect for swimming and cooling off.

All the properties on the waterfront are affected by this. Some properties are on deeper water or have longer docks allowing varying degrees of access. Our dock is usually floating and fully accessible by boat from May thru September, however rain fall and power needs can affect these dates. There is no guarantee of the water level as this is completely out of our control. You can contact the local marina to find out the latest level for Lake Hiwassee. The Marina rents slips for a reasonable daily fee at their floating dock and it is accessible most of the year. There is also a boat launch at the marina that is free to use for anyone staying in Bear Paw resort.

Our executive-style mountain home features four bedrooms, with queen beds, and three bathrooms, each with double vanities and tub/shower combinations. The lake and mountain range views from the master bedroom and both decks are truly unbelievable, some of the best that Bear Paw offers. The main floor level has solid oak hardwood floors, and soaring tongue and groove pine ceilings. This level features an open great room, a dining room, a stacked rock gas fireplace, large smart television, a fully-equipped kitchen with solid surface countertops and stainless sink. Raised panel oak kitchen cabinets, two bedrooms, and a full bath. This floor leads to two decks, one covered with a 6 foot cedar swing and one open. This was the dam superintendent's home where such guests as President Roosevelt stayed when he visited the Hiwassee Dam.
